School project

Overview
Based on his own experiences as a child, Francis Folley was deeply motivated to ensure that children in southern Malawi do not miss out on attending school because their parents cannot afford the government-required school fees, mandatory uniforms, and school supplies. For more than ten years, YCD has supported 150 schoolchildren by covering these costs. The organization distributes uniforms and school materials to the supported children each semester. Over the years, school attendance has also been secured for all orphaned children (see Orphan Project). Currently, 184 children receive support.

Project Goals

  • Support 152 children in attending school by covering school fees and providing uniforms and school supplies

  • Expand the project by 30 children to support orphans

Goal achievement

Personal support for students, especially during the transition to higher education or university

Covering school fees

Distribution of school uniforms and school materials

Selection of new children who can be supported.

Requirements and measures

Ensure Sustainability:
By 2026, school fees should be fully financed through the sale of goats from YCD’s goat breeding program. The freed-up donation funds can then be used for new projects.

Sustainable Development Goals

This project contributes to achieving several of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.

The school project enables children in rural areas to access education. This way, more children receive better opportunities for the future.

The project reduces social inequalities by providing disadvantaged children with educational opportunities. Regardless of income, they gain knowledge and skills.
