Our successes in 2022

At the end of the year, we would like to recap our work and successes in 2022:

  • On January 27, 2022, Malawi was flooded by Tropical Storm Anna. What remained was suffering, misery, and hunger. We provided the survivors with food, emergency shelters, and drinking water.

  • The tropical storm left behind 33 orphaned children, who are now all well cared for in new families through the sponsorship program.

  • All 152 students in the Chikwawa district were able to attend school in 2022, thanks to our school project.

  • A total of 50 prisoners successfully completed the Life Skills program and started their own businesses.

  • YCD continued to support the families of the prisoners.

  • Major events and awareness campaigns against child marriage were carried out.

  • More and more goats are being born and are expected to soon financially support the school project.

We want to thank all members, donors, and helpers for the great collaboration and support. Without you, none of this would have been possible!

151 schoolchildren in 2022

Also this year, thanks to the school project, all children in the Chikwawa district were able to attend school. This marks the fourth year in a row! The children received their school uniforms and supplies last week.

Education is our top priority because it shapes the new generation and fosters and secures a thriving society.

Life Skills Program Graduation Ceremony

The Summer Class 2022 of the Life Skills Program successfully completed the program in mid-September.

We congratulate all the graduates!

The graduation ceremony took place at Chikwawa Prison. There was dancing, celebration, and the graduates performed plays about how to behave in critical situations outside of prison. Afterwards, certificates were handed out, and all inmates received a bar of soap, soybeans, and cooking oil.

More about the Life Skills Program:

Child Marriage Project

With a large event attended by over 2,000 people on-site, YCD was able to bring the issue of child marriage to the attention of a wider community. Through awareness campaigns about the severe consequences of child marriage, discussion groups, and testimonies from those affected, they succeeded in raising people’s awareness. Francis is happy to share more about this at our annual celebration in September.
